Kalpana Viswanath is a researcher and has worked on issues of gender and urbanisation for over 20 years. She is the co-founder of Safetipin, a social enterprise that uses technology to build safer and inclusive cities and has worked with city and municipal governments in more than 15 cities in India and globally. She was a member of the Delhi government Women’s Safety Committee that helped prepare a comprehensive roadmap for the city. She has worked as a consultant with UN Women and UN Habitat in several cities. She is a member of the Advisory Group on Gender Issue at UN Habitat, Board member of SLOCAT (a global network on sustainable mobility), the International Centre for the Prevention of Crime (ICPC), the Chair of the International Advisory Committee of Women in Cities International (WICI) and the Chair of Jagori. She has published widely and has published widely in magazines and journals and has co edited a book on Building Gender Inclusive Cities. She writes a weekly column in Hindustan times.
