The pandemic has forced a critical spotlight on public transit, from the seismic shift in work commutes to transit’s role in keeping our cities functioning during a crisis. It has also exposed the flawed financial model that undergirds transit, based heavily, if not solely, on ridership revenue. As cities plan for post-pandemic and more resilient systems, this session will explore rethinking transit for access and public health, as well as new business models including transit’s exclusive focus on fare revenue, ridership, and economic productivity.
