Professor, Centre for Transport Studies
University of Cape Town
Dr. Herrie Schalekamp works as a research-led practitioner and member of the academic staff at the Centre for Transport Studies at the University of Cape Town. His work centers on public transport reform in Sub-Saharan African cities. In particular, he focuses on how the minibus operations that provide mass transport in these cities might be supported to better respond to urban mobility needs. Key aspects of his work include: explorations of the business aspirations of minibus operators; alternative mechanisms through which public agencies can build positive relationships with minibus operators; and the potential of new technologies to improve minibus services and facilitate a shift away from fossil fuel dependence.
